CAMP LIONHEART

It is the third year that SGRainbow will be running our overnight camp for gay, bisexual and queer (GBQ) youth from 18 to 25 years old. We are still going strong with all your support and hope to do so with the years to come.

Camp Lionheart this year will explore some of life's little challenges and how to overcome them. Like the lion in the Wizard of Oz, we hope that at the end of the yellow brick road (or camp in this case),  you will find that little bit of courage inside you to face the tough challenges ahead and overcome future life obstacles.

Through the bonding and sharing sessions, you will find your true inner strength and develop your self-confidence and self-worth, and revel in being in your own skin. You will also be able to foster new and long-lasting friendships.

Camp Supernova (2016) was an amazing and significant experience for me. It was the first time I participated in an event like this, and it brought to my awareness many like minded people who were in similar and contrasting differences.

It opened my eyes to new perspectives, including opinions on immigration, extent of coming out, and what to look for in a partner.

The activities were very well planned and executed, and factors like inclusivity and safety were not compromised.

What came out of it all was a strong bond with the participants, a community where we didnt need a reason to hang out. A community which I know will be there for me when I needed them to be.

It feels good to be part of such a strong and supportive community.

You Wei (Camp Supernova Participant)

Camp Supernova has been a great platform for me to meet other gay youths of my age. Thanks to its safe, warm and inviting atmosphere, campers like me felt at ease to be ourselves and discuss about issues close to our heart. I’ll definitely be encouraging my friends to join this year’s camp, especially those who are still new to the circle or are exploring their identity and need a safe space to do so.

Andrew (Camp Supernova Participant)

For the past two years, I've had the privilege of helping out in the camps as a group leader, which gave me an excellent space to meet and learn from people in the GBQ community - many of whom I got to keep in contact as friends and buddies.

These camps also gave me valuable insights to the human psych and leadership skills as I get to firstly, experience how each individual that comes, whether shy or outgoing, break out of their shells, and have the chance to express themselves. Secondly, I learn to manage people to allow them to be themselves comfortably within a safe and supportive boundary.

Jackson (Odyssey Camp and Camp Supernova Group Leader)

A: Just like in previous camps, we will not be sleeping outdoors or in tents. Unfortunately, we are unable to disclose the camp venue due to safety and security issues.

Q: How many campers will there be in total?
